Born at Mangalore to a Gowda Saraswath Brahmin.Dr. Ganesh Nayak was Educated in Canara Hign School.He Was Honoured by the School in 2000 as a Distinguished Alumni.

Medical Education at Kasturba Medical Collge Manipal-Mangalore including postgraduation in general surgery(M.S).
He was Honoured as a distinguished alumni from
KMC Manipal 1987.





He worked in the department of cardiothoracic surgery 1971 to
1973 under Dr P.Alexander.
This team has the credit of performing the first open
heart surgery in the state of Karnataka.
For further studies and training he proceeded to USA and performed residency training in surgery and cardiothoracic surgeries in the
1. University of Columbia,South Carolina.
2. University of Charlston,South Carolina.
3. University of Memphis     Tennessee.
between 1973 to 1980
Returned to India and joined Cardiothoracic dept at Sindhi hospital under Dr P.Alexander. During this period of time developed and performed echocardiogram for the 1st time in Karnataka (1980). Also took up a project "Juvenile Mitral Stenosis"which was founded by Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi.
Under this project over 10,000 school going children between 5-12 from schools in different towns and villages were screened. Free advise, treatment and even surgeries( heart valve ) are performed at Bangalore.
1994 joined Ramaiah Medical College as Honorary Professor and Head of the dept in cardio thoracic surgery.He was responsible to develope and perform cardiac, thoracic and vascular surgeries for the first time.
     Joined Bangalore Institute of Oncology, the first private cancer hospital as a Director 1996 and became Managing Director and Vice Chairman 2004.















He also became Director of Healthcare global - an offshoot of Bangalore Institute of Oncology and today HCG is the largest network of cancer hospitals from New Delhi to Erode, combining more than 20 cancer hospitals.

He pioneered Vascular Surgery in Bangalore and for this was honoured by
two vascular institutions for his contribution to the development of vascular surgery Associations of surgeons of India honoured him Prof M.P.Pai Oration in 2003.







He performed the first Coronary bypass in the state of Karnataka in Bangalore 1985.






For his contributiom in cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgery and also in oncology, he was honoured with IMA B C Roy Award in 2002.





For his contribution in Medical services, Gowda Sarawath Brahmin Association honoured him twice with some of the great achievers in the community.

He is a Fellow of International College of Surgeon.

He is a fellow of Cardiological society of India.
